~ What in the world are pixels? ~

Pixel is short for Picture Element. It is a tiny little dot of a graphic image. Your monitor is build up by many, many pixels. How many pixels your monitor shows depends on what resolution you have set for it. The most usual resolution is 1024x768. That means your monitor shows 1024 pixels horisontally and 768 pixels vertically.

To draw pixel graphics you fill in these tiny little square dots here and there to finally make an image, similar to cross stiching. When you resize a pixel image its easy to see how it has been done, like in the one I have here, you can see the squeares clearly.
